ONION SAMBAR/KULAMBU

Ingredients:
  1. Small /Large onion-1cup  
  2. Tomato-1/4cup
  3. Tamarind Water-1/4cup
  4. Mustard seeds
  5. Curry leaves
  6. Asafoetida-1/4tsp
  7. Red-chili-1
  8. Cumin seeds-1/4tsp
  9. Shred Coconut-1/3cup
  10. Cinnamon-1/4stick
  11. Cloves-3
  12. Aniseeds-1/2tsp
  13. Ginger-a few(optional)
  14. curry powder-1 1/2tsp
  15. salt-to taste
  16. water-3 1/2cups


To Grind:
  • Take a blender,drop shred coconut,cinnamon,cloves,aiseeds,ginger and water.
Method:
  • Place a kadai and add oil,mustard seeds,cumin seeds,curry leaves,asafoetida and red-chili.
  • After popping the seeds add finely chopped onions.
  • Onion comes in golden brown and add finely chopped tomatoes.
  • Add a tamarind water,salt ,curry powder and mix well.Wait for 5mins.
  • After add 3cups of water and boiling well.Wait for 8mins.
  • After boiling the water add grind paste and add balance cup of water and mix well. Wait for 10mins.
  • After 10 mins.Hot and serve with boiled rice and appalam.
