South Indian~Beet Root Poriyal

Beet root is one of my favorite vegetables.I used to stay away for a long time.My husband is not like a lot of poriyal varieties.This recipe is simple  and easy to prepare.I am serve with "Boiled Rice,Curd Rice,Sambar Rice,Rasam Rice".

  1.  Beet root-1
  2. Onion-1/4cup
  3. Red-chili-2 1/2
  4. Curry Leaves
  5. Mustard Seeds
  6. Channa Dal-1/4tsp
  7. Salt-to taste
  8. Oil-3tsp

  • Peel the skin of beet root and grate them using a grater.Finely chopped onions and split red-chilis.
  • In pan heat oil and when hot,add mustard,channa dal,curry leaves,red-chili and onion.
  • Saute onion till it turns golden color.
  • Add the grated beet root and salt.Fry in medium flame for about 15min until they are soft,remove the grated beet root and transfer to the bowl.
  • Hot and serve with "Boiled Rice".
