SOOJI KESARI/RAVA KESARI

Karthigai Deepam is a festival of lights celebrated by Tamil Hindus on the full moon day of Karthigai month(Nov/Dec).The month of karthigai is of special importance to Tamil people,which derives it name from the star 'Kirthigai'.Lord Shiva,Lord Murugan.People clean their houses and decorate them with 'Kolam'.
Today i have to celebrate this festival in charlotte.My friend send  me the Tiruchengode,Arthanariswarar malai deepam photos.I am very happy to see that picture.



Ingredients: 
  1. Rava/Sooji-1cup
  2. Sugar-3/4cup
  3. Ghee-3 1/3tsp
  4. Cashew-nuts-1tsp
  5. Raisins-1tsp
  6. Cardamom powder-1/4tsp
  7. Kesari color(or)Saffron-1/4tsp(Saffron mix with 3tsp of milk)
  8. Water-2cup

Method:
  • Take a kadai add 3tsp of ghee,raisins,cashew-nuts and fry well.
  • Add rava/sooji ,sugar,cardamom powder and fry well in ghee.
  • Add water, kesari color or saffron and mix well.
  • After water comes in evaporate stage and mix well.
  • Rava kesari comes in round shape after switch off the flame.

  • Coat a plate with some ghee and pour the rava kesari in a plate.With the help of balance ghee spread the kesari and let it sit for few minutes.



This help the rava kesari to thicken.then cut into pieces,offer to the Lord Murugan as neivedyam and serve ur loved ones.

  4. Looks yummy!Rava Kesari is very famous in Southern India,heard a lot about it.Finally,will have a chance to try it now.Also learnt something new from your post - about Karthigai Deepam.
